Episode Overview

While enjoying an evening with Margaret, Frank injures his back and finds himself in traction. Seizing the moment, he applies for the Purple Heart, claiming to have been 'technically' injured at a frontline unit. Meanwhile, Tommy Gillis, an old friend of Hawkeye, visits to discuss his book on the war. Sadly, Tommy later arrives at the camp with severe injuries, and despite Hawkeye’s efforts, he can't save him. Additionally, a 15-year-old boy in the hospital for an appendectomy dreams of heroism but is sent home, receiving Frank's Purple Heart as a parting gift.
