Behind Bars: The World's Toughest Prisons (2016)
S01E03 Antanimora Prison — Antananativo, Madagascar
Episode Overview
Antanimora Prison in Madagascar is overwhelmed with overcrowding, disease, and vermin. Located in the heart of Antananarivo, this facility, designed for just 800 inmates, now crams over 3,000 inside its walls. Prisoners are packed tightly together, some forced to sleep on the floor. The cells are filled with darkness, cockroaches, lice, and the foul stench of latrines. Inmates receive only one meal a day—a bowl of bland cassava, lacking any meat or fruit. Malnutrition is reportedly one of the leading causes of death within the prison.
