Episode Overview

While chatting about the conclusion of winter, Tess reminds Monica that some places experience the chill year-round. One such location is the Kewanee Women's Correctional Facility, where Monica's current assignment, Carla Robinson, is serving 25 years to life for murder. Taking on a role as a social worker, Monica initiates a theater program within the prison. With Tess assisting as a guard, Monica encourages a group of inmates to share their stories and pasts. Carla, however, maintains her innocence and focuses on seeking a pardon. Meanwhile, Andrew cares for Santos Gonzales, the father of Orbie, the victim of Carla's alleged crime, who still harbors resentment over his son’s death. To engage the inmates, Monica selects “Agnes of God” for their performance, a play about a young nun accused of murder after becoming pregnant from rape.
