Episode Overview

For centuries, the Inquisition's hidden records have remained sealed away. A passionate Spanish priest dedicates himself to revealing the horrific truths contained within these files. Meanwhile, Napoleon champions Enlightenment ideals, conquering Italy, abolishing the Inquisition, and ordering its documents to be transported to Paris. Spain's renowned painter, Goya, boldly decides to illustrate the Inquisition but soon finds himself fleeing for his life. In a desperate act to assert its dwindling power, the Inquisition kidnaps a young Jewish boy who was secretly baptized. His devoted father fights to reclaim his son, who becomes an emblem for a Pope on the brink of losing his earthly authority.
