Episode Overview
High above the Peruvian rainforest, two hundred feet up in the canopy, a soft pink glow begins to emerge. The morning air hangs thick in the dense foliage as birds sing, each in their own way—a purple-throated cotinga followed by the distant call of a flycatcher. Butterflies flit about, sipping nectar while the high canopy buzzes with insects, unaware of the sun's ascent. As rosy light spreads across the sky, the sun breaks through the trees. A blue-headed parrot gathers twigs for her nest, while a cobalt-winged parakeet feasts on the white seed clusters of a kapok tree, aiding in pollination. Gradually, we descend into the lush understory, where orchids and epiphytes sway in the humid air. Here, intricate relationships between insects, birds, and plants thrive in a vibrant ecosystem.
