Barnaby is excited as he digs out his old LPs, recalling his youthful days in a rock band, much to Jones’s amusement. His former rock heroes, Hired Gun, reunite for the Midsomer rock festival, but backstage, long-buried tensions resurface, along with the mystery of a band member who vanished three decades ago. The excitement turns to horror when one band member is electrocuted during their opening performance. With suspicion surrounding both the band and their eerie butler, Barnaby must set aside his fandom and don his detective hat to uncover the truth.
