Annie Woodrow, a charity worker from Midsomer Malham, finds herself on trial for the murder of her best friend, Frances Trevelyan, a case Barnaby had looked into ten months earlier. As Barnaby delves deeper, he grows troubled by discrepancies in the prosecution's narrative. To uncover the truth, Barnaby and Jones turn to key witness Mrs. Beverly and engage in a perilous entrapment scheme. Meanwhile, Jones receives news of his promotion to Detective Sergeant, adding an additional layer of complexity to their investigation.
