Episode Overview
The TARDIS materializes in 16th century Aztec civilization. Ignoring the Doctor's warnings, Barbara ventures off and is captured by the high priest Autloc, who believes she embodies the goddess Yetaxa. This event is seen as an omen that the delayed rains will soon arrive. Meanwhile, Tlotoxl, the high priest of sacrifice, persuades Ian to lead an army, but he faces competition from Ixta. Ian feels uneasy about his newfound position, especially upon discovering that they are expected to present a human sacrifice at the rain ceremony. The Doctor insists they must not disrupt Aztec customs, a notion that troubles Barbara.
