Episode Overview
Hale Stoddard experiences life from his wife’s perspective while sitting in jail, penning a letter to his editor, convinced it won’t be read since he’s busy covering the war. Jonathan answers Hale’s wish to embrace his wife again, first sending him back to the basement of his own home. There, he gains insight into Martha’s dreams. He discovers that she sleeps in his study, surrounded by his photographs, as they are her only connection to him during his long absences. He also realizes she occasionally fantasizes about Eleanor, a fellow journalist who often joined him on assignments. Lastly, Hale sees Louis before the accident that cost him his arm, which helps him grasp why Martha longs for his presence yet wants him to find happiness.
