Brennan is critically injured when she is shot during a late night at the Jeffersonian lab and is quickly taken to the hospital. As she fights for her life, she experiences unsettling visions of her mother that challenge her rational thinking. Meanwhile, the investigation reveals that the person responsible for the attack might have connections to the Jeffersonian itself.
