Episode Overview

Following the death of her father, Tess finds herself destitute after violating her work contract. Alec D'Uberville continues to pursue her and offers to care for her family, but she firmly declines. Left without a home, they camp near D'Urberville manor, where Alec insists she must comply with his demands. Meanwhile, Angel Clare returns from Brazil, suffering from yellow fever and in fragile health. He searches for Tess, but by the time he locates her, she has become Alec's mistress. Still in love with Angel, Tess makes a desperate choice before fleeing with him, but their fleeting time together soon meets a heartbreaking conclusion.
