Nazi Megastructures (2013)
S06E04 Japan's Death Railway
Episode Overview
In 1942, Japan seizes control of oil-rich Burma to bolster its expanding empire. However, after suffering heavy losses at the Battle of Midway, the nation urgently requires a new supply line. This leads to the construction of a grueling 258-mile railway, carved through some of the most challenging landscapes on Earth. Tragically, the labor comes at a horrific cost, with 200,000 Allied prisoners of war and local workers toiling under brutal conditions. Nearly half of them will perish either on the railway or in the adjacent, harrowing camps.
