Our host checks in with homeowners Jan and Brian Igoe, encouraging them to leave their home before demolition starts. The team talks about using fiberboard to safeguard the oak floors during the construction process. Meanwhile, Tom Silva seeks out Richard Trethewey to discuss the heating plans for the new addition. We meet foundation contractor Ken Lewis, who is busy digging the footing for the front bump-out and explains the Dig Safe program. (Ken accidentally strikes an unmarked water pipe.) We also take a peek at the foundation hole for the new addition, and a concrete cutter creates an opening in the old foundation wall to link it with the new cellar. Graham Gund and Rick Bechtel review ongoing design modifications for the addition.
