Episode Overview

Our host teams up with landscape contractor Roger Cook, who is busy with his crew installing a plastic drywell in the narrow area beside the garage. Meanwhile, homeowner Dean Gallant is working on insulating the kitchen floor with breathable, poly-wrapped insulation, which is much easier to manage than the traditional type. In the kitchen, the crew has already insulated the exterior walls and several interior partitions to reduce sound transmission, and they've installed a durable, cross-laminated vapor barrier to withstand the drywalling process. At the back of the kitchen, our master carpenter is fitting the new back door. We also meet historic interiors expert Susan Hollis, who is guiding Lauren Gallant in selecting appropriate Arts and Crafts-style wallpapers and lighting fixtures. Lastly, our host visits the stained-glass studio of Peter Mattison and Charles Billings, where they are restoring the damaged windows from the Gallants' home.
