Episode Overview
The day begins for the guys with a hike up Diamond Head, offering stunning views of Honolulu. Once at the job site, our host meets with contract supervisor Roland Lagareta to go over the permitting and demolition details. Meanwhile, the master carpenter connects with site supervisor Rob Varnet to check on the replacement of termite-damaged beams and joists. He also visits the electrician and observes the pouring of pier foundations, before meeting roofer Jim Wilkinson, whose team is tackling the removal of four layers of old roofing. Homeowner Christiane Bintliff shares her vision for the house. Later, we explore Waimea on Kauai, where Mike Faye has beautifully restored a collection of old plantation homes for vacation rentals. We wrap up at architect Norm Lacayo's office in downtown Honolulu, where we review a model of the redesigned house featuring an enhanced floor plan and an addition.
