Abby and the kids are feeling overwhelmed as they prepare for their final exams, but their focus is disrupted when a column Tom wrote, aimed at a younger audience, sparks controversy with a local senior citizen and leads to a protest outside their home. Meanwhile, Elizabeth is thrown into a frenzy upon learning she has to tackle an algebra final. In the midst of all this, Tommy decides to form a band after discovering that the prom committee is willing to pay $300 for live music.
