Gabrielle, Brunnhilda, and Beowulf discover that Xena has survived the Grindl's assault. Upon reaching the mine where the Grindl lurks, Xena discloses that the creature was originally the valkyrie Grinhilda. In a bid to halt Xena's ruthless domination, Grinhilda had placed the Rheingold Ring upon her finger in a moment of desperation.
