Cathleen Calvert, in a twisted scheme with her paramour, crime scene investigator Patrick Kinsley, devises a plan to eliminate her wealthy husband, Clifford, a formidable businessman. Their strategy involves murdering an investment broker embroiled in a dispute with Clifford and framing him for the crime. With her husband incarcerated, Cathleen stands to gain access to his fortune. Meanwhile, Lieutenant Columbo is on the case, determined to expose a criminal element lurking within the investigation team.
