Britain's Greatest Bridges (2016)
S01E03 The Clifton Suspension Bridge
Episode Overview
Engineer Rob Bell explores the fascinating history of Isambard Kingdom Brunel's iconic bridge spanning the beautiful Avon Gorge in Bristol, revealing that there are doubts about whether it was solely his creation. Although the bridge was left incomplete during Brunel’s lifetime, following his death in 1859, his friends took it upon themselves to finish the project as a tribute. They repurposed the chains from one of his other suspension bridges that was being taken down to achieve this goal.
