Episode Overview

While in Coyote Wells to deliver cattle, the Virginian, Trampas, and Steve Hill come across Martin Reese (David Wayne), a man mourning the loss of his wife and children to smallpox. Having sold his farm, he now travels around promoting vegetarianism, a message that doesn't resonate well in cattle territory. When one of his critics is found dead, Reese becomes the prime suspect, labeled a dangerous madman and hunted by a posse. On their return to Medicine Bow, the cowboys meet Ellen Beecher (Barbara Barrie), who knows where Reese is hiding. With several orphans in her care, they decide to assist Ellen while also trying to safeguard Reese from the furious mob.
