Episode Overview
Sue Ann McCrae (Patty Duke) lives with her widowed father (Edward Binns) and two younger brothers on their small farm. Joe Stevens (Paul Carr), the farmhand, wishes to marry her, but she feels suffocated by her life. One night, she decides to flee and catches a stagecoach driven by Mr. Tait (Roy Barcroft), where she meets Trampas. She shares her plans to go to San Francisco. After reaching Medicine Bow, Trampas helps her find a room at Mrs. Crandall's boarding house. Meanwhile, Joe and Pa McCrae search for her and discover her whereabouts. When they find her, Sue Ann expresses her desire to experience life beyond the farm. Although she offers to return home, her father supports her quest for independence, assuring her she’s always welcome back. Joe decides to stay close.
