S01E03 The Silk Spinners
Episode Overview
Silk stands as a remarkable creation of invertebrates, utilized in various forms, from the protective coverings of lacewing eggs to the astonishing threads crafted by New Zealand's luminous glow worms. Spiders, however, elevate silk production to an extraordinary level. The common wolf spider, lacking a web, exemplifies maternal care by wrapping her eggs in silk and transporting them with her. Meanwhile, the bolas spider employs a sticky silk ball infused with moth pheromones to attract its victims. Additionally, vast colonies of spiders coexist, weaving a colossal web that would terrify anyone with arachnophobia.
