Episode Overview
In the 1974 episode "Flowers of Evil" from the American crime series Police Woman, Sgt. Suzanne "Pepper" Anderson goes undercover in a nursing home to probe a murder case. Her investigation reveals a group of three lesbians involved in robbing and killing elderly residents. This eighth episode of the inaugural season premiered on November 8, 1974. The portrayal of the criminals sparked protests from gay and lesbian organizations, who criticized the depiction of lesbianism as negative and stereotypical. Following backlash over a similar episode from Marcus Welby, M.D., NBC postponed airing "Flowers of Evil" and made some adjustments, but these did little to appease concerns, leading to an agreement not to rerun the episode.
