As a research technician for affluent Allan Pruitt, Kimble finds himself drawn into the struggles of Allan's daughter, Janice, who returns home after a year in a mental health facility. She is recovering from trauma after a tragic incident involving a boy in her care and a pair of feral dogs. Allan's new wife, Dorina, resents Janice and devises a scheme to drive her to madness by enlisting a neighbor to let his dogs bark in the woods, making Janice believe the animals are still alive despite being euthanized. When Kimble asserts he has heard the barking, Dorina enlists the sheriff to dig into Kimble's past for any incriminating evidence.
