While working as a photo developer in a film supply store, Kimble unexpectedly sees Fred Johnson, the one-armed man, in a photograph. Determined to confront him, Kimble tracks down the freelance photographer, Howie Keever, who took the picture and discovers that Johnson is employed at a nearby chemical warehouse. Kimble confronts Johnson at the warehouse, leading to a struggle that accidentally triggers a chemical explosion, leaving Johnson injured and Kimble momentarily blinded by the flash. Johnson escapes and reports Kimble to the police. Before they arrive at the hospital, Kimble manages to flee, seeking refuge at Howie’s apartment, but the police interrogate Howie and his uncle, uncovering Kimble’s true identity and the $10,000 reward.
