Episode Overview
Following the heartbreaking death of his wife, Jefferson relocates to Paris, where he flourishes both personally and in his political career. During his time there, he becomes involved with a young enslaved teenager, a relationship that will profoundly influence his life for the next four decades. Upon his return to America, President George Washington names Jefferson the nation's first Secretary of State. In this role, he quickly becomes embroiled in a fierce competition with Alexander Hamilton, the Secretary of the Treasury.
