Title: What's So Funny? Plot: After the puzzling death of ex-con comedian Denny Frye, Hardcastle feels compelled to dig deeper. With Mark’s help, he learns that Denny had been dating Pamela Bayer. The judge’s instincts are confirmed when he and McCormick witness an attempted abduction of Pamela. Upon rescuing her, they discover the assailants are linked to Sonny Austin, her former boyfriend, who has been violently disrupting her social life to rekindle their romance. As they investigate who’s leaking Pamela’s dating details, they find a connection to comedians at Boots Dikeman's club. Suspecting rival Leo Dikeman’s involvement, they plan to confront him, but before they can, Sonny murders Leo in a fit of betrayal. With the case stalled, Hardcastle enlists Mark to pose as one of Pamela's suitors, leading Sonny right into their trap.
