Highway Patrol (1955)

S01E27 Motorcycle A

Apr 02, 1956 Season 1 Episode 27 Action & Adventure, Drama

Episode Overview

Two bikers, Joe Keeley (Clint Eastwood) and Nick West (John Compton), roll into town on their stripped-down Harleys and decide to grab a bite at a café. Their visit takes a turn when the café owner, Bernie Sills (Jack Edwards), confronts them with a shotgun and orders them to leave. As his wife calls the Highway Patrol, Sills provokes Nick, who responds by disarming him and delivering a punch. The bikers quickly rev up their engines and speed out of town. Upon realizing his wife has alerted the authorities, Sills hides the gun and falsely claims the bikers instigated the conflict. However, as a motorcycle cop pursues the bikers, he is tragically killed by a trucker running a red light. Chief Dan Mathews (Broderick Crawford) swiftly uncovers the truth and arrests Sills for assaulting the bikers, flipping the script on the typical ‘bad biker’ narrative.
