Self-absorbed poet Jacob Garrety is determined to save his literary magazine, The Village Quarterly, from financial ruin. When foundation president Don McCallum arrives with news of funding cuts, Jacob persuades his assistant and love interest, Lauren, to leverage her allure to sway Don. Though hesitant, she complies. Meanwhile, Jacob revels in the attention from arts benefactor Sandra Dunbar at a poetry event. As Lauren pursues Jacob's plan, tragedy strikes, leading to her untimely death in the street. Detectives Nichols and Wheeler uncover the dark desires lurking within the world of art.
