The affluent widow Gillian Snape's children are concerned that her photographer fiancé, Lester Rose, might be after her wealth. They enlist Hetty's help to dig into Rose's background. With Geoffrey's assistance, Hetty discovers that Rose has a history as a gambler and gigolo, with multiple aliases. Unexpected revelations from two women linked to his past, along with Hetty's nerve-wracking undercover visit to his studio, paint a more complex picture of him.
