On ANZAC Day in 1958, tensions rise between Sarah and Henry as they confront societal biases brought to light by an Aboriginal patient, Frank Gibbs. Meanwhile, Elizabeth's world is shaken when Douglas starts coughing up blood. Anna comes to terms with her divorce from Gino, choosing to move forward without letting their past dictate her next novel. George meets Regina at the mental asylum, where he is presented with a divorce proposal. Leah, a local Jewish girl, decides to flee with her non-Jewish boyfriend, Larry. Frustrated by James' absence, Henry lashes out at those around him, while Jack notices Carolyn’s longing for her previous city life.
