Episode Overview

Dr. Chapman finds himself in hot water when Festus arrests him for attempting to nap in Doc's office, despite his explanation that Doc has gone to Baltimore to improve his medical skills. A letter reveals that Doc was deeply affected by a little girl's death, which he believed he could have prevented had he embraced modern medicine, prompting his departure. The townspeople are not friendly towards Dr. Chapman, and their disdain increases when Newly’s shop explodes with both him and Festus inside. While Festus emerges unscathed, Newly suffers a brain injury requiring surgery. Dr. Chapman redeems himself by successfully performing the operation and saving Newly's life.
