Hawks makes his way to the John Kaylor ranch with the intention of purchasing horses for the train, only to learn that John has recently passed away. His wife, Naomi, is unwilling to sell the horses at the price her late husband had agreed upon. Strangely, she seems devoid of grief over John's death, focusing solely on the sale of the ranch.
