Episode Overview

“Mags, you should consider a different career; if you want to be a hero, social work might suit you better,” someone quips. A five-year-old boy’s life is at stake amidst a web of lies, with his mother found beaten and unconscious. Mrs. Hart arrives at the station, frantic, insisting that her ex-husband Barry has taken her son, Zack. PJ probes her about Zack's sister, Jenny, who isn't Barry's child, questioning the situation further. Meanwhile, Tom receives a report about shoplifters, only to discover it’s the Hart children. Officers Nick and Wayne apprehend them and return the kids to their mother. Tom speaks to Jenny about her theft, informing Mrs. Hart that since they previously let Jenny off with a warning, she will now face charges. At the Hart home, the scene is grim: Mrs. Hart has been assaulted, and the police arrange for her transport to the hospital, while little Zack remains missing.
