When time is of the essence and lives hang in the balance, what choices can you make? Tess, off duty and preparing to adopt Hayley—who she last encountered in "Strays"—stumbles upon a severe car crash just outside of town. The female driver is trapped inside the vehicle, which is quickly engulfed in flames. Realizing there's no time to extinguish the fire and escape, Tess watches helplessly as the car explodes, resulting in the woman's death. Blamed by the victim's husband and facing scrutiny from the Ethical Standards Department, Tess begins to question her decision. Her ability to foster Hayley is now at risk, prompting Jo and Jonesy to investigate the victim's family in a bid to clear Tess' name. Even if her actions were warranted, has she jeopardized her chance to provide a safe home for Hayley?
