Episode Overview
The police are invited to a nostalgic charity dance, where Ben attends with Officer Shelley Piper. Her estranged husband, Sergeant Peter Baynes, a favored officer of Inspector Falcon-Price, becomes overly intoxicated and confronts Ben, believing he still has claim over Shelley. This leads to a scuffle in the restroom, where Tom and Falcon-Price find Ben after he has punched Baynes. Falcon-Price leans towards believing Baynes, and Ben's previous violent incident—where he assaulted an officer and faced demotion—doesn't help his case. Though Baynes opts not to file charges, Ben feels Falcon-Price is leaning towards suspension. Tom, Jo, and the others support Ben's claim of self-defense. Shelley reveals that Baynes is desperate to maintain his reputation as the "good guy" in the Inspector's eyes.
