In Mt. Thomas, the dynamics of romance are quite intriguing. PJ and Liz are caught in a secret affair, while Tom and Grace are openly enjoying their relationship. Meanwhile, Tess and Jonesy are grappling with their undeniable attraction toward each other. The excitement of an Elvis auction brings back "Gossie" Goss, a fellow officer and friend of Tom's. He splurges on a $6000 scarf for his girlfriend, Barbara, despite not having the funds. Concerned, Tom realizes that Barbara is also broke and seems to be more focused on her romance with Gossie, leaving her frustrated teenage daughter, Laura, to foot the bill.
