S02E08 Incident of the Haunted Hills
Episode Overview
In dire need of water, Gil becomes embroiled in a dangerous clash between the Paneequa tribe and surveyors over the Lake of the Haunted Hills. The winds and geysers of the valley hold deep spiritual significance for the tribe, while the U.S. Army's survey is led by a ruthless captain known for his violent past against Native Americans, who orders the torture of a Paneequa woman. Gil believes that his drover Tasunka, who left the tribe in his youth, might be able to help resolve the conflict peacefully. However, when Gil discovers that the nearby White settlement of Heliotrope has turned into a ghost town because of the tensions, he instructs Rowdy to take charge of the cattle drive in case he doesn’t make it back.
