Episode Overview
Favor and Pete suggest a shortcut to the San Luis crossing to Kurtz, who is on the trail with his daughter. Meanwhile, Lt. Whitley gets word about a Comanche threat and alerts the ranchers. Hap Johnson, a winter soldier, decides to desert and trades his military gear for inexpensive goods at Watson's. Curious about Wish, he learns her name and boldly enters the camp, claiming to be an old friend from Nachodoches. Favor refuses to hire him, and Hap, having caught wind of Kurtz's wealth, leads them on a “shortcut” into the hills. The lieutenant arrests Watson, Favor, and Hey Soos for possessing army supplies. Rowdy and Quince pursue Hap and eventually find him with Kurtz. Rowdy sends Quince to fetch the army and the drover.
