Their peaceful retreat takes a dark turn when a local equestrian trainer is discovered hanged in a stable on the property adjacent to Lynley’s. Initially perceived as a suicide due to his financial woes, Lynley uncovers connections to smuggling that hint at foul play. As investigations unfold, Lynley must confront personal dilemmas regarding his future—whether to continue with the police force or take charge of his own estate.
