S06E01 A Commander Rises
Episode Overview
In a challenging 2013 campaign, the Sea Shepherds struggle without the Brigitte Bardot and their helicopter. They introduce a new vessel, the Sam Simon. Former captain Paul Watson must step down due to a court injunction prohibiting him from approaching the Japanese whaling fleet. Each of the fleet's ships gets a new captain, while Watson takes on an observer role. The Steve Irwin coordinates the mission, and the Bob Barker successfully tracks down the Nisshin Maru, only to witness the Japanese whalers capture a whale. The Sam Simon locates the Sun Laurel along with two other whaling vessels, but a rookie captain hesitates to block their refueling attempt. As the Nisshin Maru moves eastward, the Sea Shepherds mobilize all ships to intervene. After 30 hours, the Bob Barker positions itself against the larger Nisshin Maru to block its path.
