Laura feels excluded and neglected as Charles devotes his attention to Albert and the calf he's been given. After overhearing a conversation between Charles and Caroline about Laura's feelings of not belonging in the family, Albert runs away. Determined to prove herself, Laura takes Albert's calf to the fair and wins first place. She dedicates her victory to Albert, expressing her genuine feelings. Hidden nearby, Albert can't resist any longer and emerges when he hears Laura's touching tribute.
