The school welcomes a new teacher, Ms. Wilder, and Laura quickly develops feelings for her brother, Almanzo. However, Laura feels devastated when Nellie invites Almanzo to dinner. Seeking revenge on Nellie, Laura decides to take charge of the cooking for the occasion. She spices up the chicken with some fiery seasonings, and when Almanzo learns that Nellie was supposedly responsible for the meal, he steers clear of her.
