Hester Sue's former husband, Sam, arrives in town, claiming he has turned over a new leaf and stopped drinking and gambling. Convinced of his transformation, Hester Sue agrees to marry him. However, her world is shaken when Sam's wife and children show up, alerting her to the truth: Sam hasn't changed at all and is still caught up in his old vices.
