The Ingalls must sell their home to the Carters and leave Walnut Grove in search of better opportunities. Meanwhile, Mrs. Carter starts a newspaper for the town. Etta Plum takes on the role of teacher when Laura opts to dedicate more time to Rose. Additionally, Almanzo's brother, Royal, arrives in Walnut Grove with his daughter, Jenny.
