Episode Overview

Gates embarks on a quest to find the Heart of Suleiman the Magnificent, the 16th-century Ottoman ruler. After Suleiman's death in 1566 during a battle in Hungary, his body was transported back to Istanbul, but not before a significant ritual took place. His heart was removed, placed in a gold container, and buried beneath his tent. Suleiman's loyal followers believed that his heart possessed magical abilities and still beats, longing to be reunited with its owner. In tribute to the Sultan, the town of Tubek was established over the site of his burial.
