On July 17, 1996, TWA Flight 800 took off from New York, bound for Paris. Just 12 minutes into its journey, the aircraft suffered a devastating explosion, splitting apart mid-air before crashing into the ocean, resulting in the tragic loss of all 230 passengers and crew members. The flight crew did not issue any distress signals prior to the incident. Speculation arose that a wayward navy missile was responsible for the disaster, leading to one of the largest and most extensive accident investigations ever conducted.
