Episode Overview

MacLeod arrives at a French airport, where his longtime friend, Hugh Fitzcairn, greets him. For the first time in their 350-year friendship, Fitz has found stability as a university professor, happily settled with his partner, Naomi. Flashbacks reveal their initial encounter in Venice in 1637, when MacLeod intervened to protect the Doge's daughter from Fitz's romantic pursuits. Trouble arises when Naomi's jealous ex is discovered strangled beside a computer displaying Fitz's forged teaching credentials, prompting Fitz to flee from the police. MacLeod realizes that Fitz is being framed by Kalas, who has tracked him from the U.S. In a tense confrontation, Kalas beheads Fitz while MacLeod can only watch, powerless to stop it.
