MTV Unplugged (1989)
S06E05 Live
Episode Overview
Live, a four-member band featuring Ed Kowalczyk on vocals, Chad Taylor on guitar, drummer Chad Gracey, and bassist Patrick Dahlheimer, first made waves with their album Mental Jewelry, which included the hit "Operation Spirit." Their second album, Throwing Copper, followed two years later. The band has extensively toured the U.S. and also performed in Europe and Brazil, notably at Woodstock '94. During their inaugural appearance on "MTV Unplugged," they played several tracks including "Operation Spirit," "Selling The Drama," and "Lightning Crashes." According to an excerpt from the MTV Unplugged book, Live was seen as a gamble at the time of their booking. However, their performance solidified their potential for stardom, and shortly after the show aired, they climbed to No. 1 on the charts, generating a flurry of calls to MTV.
