Overview
Head of the Class, an American sitcom airing from 1986 to 1991 on ABC, centers on a group of exceptional students enrolled in the Individualized Honors Program at Manhattan's Monroe High School. Their unconventional history teacher, Charlie Moore, played by Howard Hesseman, guides these bright minds through academic and personal challenges. In 1990, Hesseman departed the show, and Billy Connolly stepped in as Billy MacGregor for the final season. After its conclusion, Connolly starred in a brief spin-off titled Billy. The show's creators, Rich Eustis and Michael Elias, drew on Eustis's own experiences as a substitute teacher.
